Porcelain veneers, minimal reduction.

Short answer: we make feldspathic and IPS e.max Press porcelain veneers with very minimal reduction of existing tooth structure. Our technicians can take a custom shade at our Manhattan lab (or at your office, for Manhattan practices), and every veneer is stained and glazed by hand.

Indications

When are porcelain veneers the right prescription?

Veneers change shape, shade and proportion with very little tooth reduction. Talk to us about your case planning before you prep.

  • Discoloration that whitening cannot correct
  • Closing small spaces and diastemas
  • Reshaping worn, chipped or uneven anterior teeth
  • Full smile makeovers combined with crowns
  • Diagnostic wax-ups and mock-ups before prep

Materials & process

Feldspathic or e.max Press: which veneer technique?

Veneer preparation guidelines: see the veneer prep guide below.

Most natural

Feldspathic veneers

Layered porcelain for the most lifelike depth and character in thin restorations.

Strength

IPS e.max Press veneers

Pressed lithium disilicate, a little stronger, with excellent translucency. See IPS e.max.

By hand

Custom shade & staining

Custom shade taking on site or in our lab, and characterization at the bench.

How a case moves through the lab

  1. Scan or impression

Send a digital scan from your intraoral scanner, or send a conventional impression with your Rx. We accept scans from iTero, 3Shape, Medit, Shining 3D, Straumann AXS, Dexis, DS Core and more. Our iTero Lab ID is 4364; other systems can link to us via info@adlny.com.

  2. Designed by our technicians

Every case is designed digitally in CAD by our technicians, and we can review a design with you remotely.

  3. Made in house

Ceramics are wet-milled and models and appliances 3D printed in our Madison Avenue lab.

  4. Finished by hand

Stain mixed at the bench, inspected under magnification and glazed with a brush before it ships back.

Patient before-and-after veneer photos are shown only in our case gallery.

How much should you reduce for a veneer?

Let the final result drive the reduction: prep through a wax-up or mock-up, stay in enamel wherever you can and reduce more toward the incisal edge, where enamel is thickest.

Where sources differ

  • Average labial enamel is only about 0.3–0.5 mm thick at the gingival third, which is why cervical reduction is the thinnest.
  • Bigger shade changes need more room: one widely used protocol goes to 0.5 / 0.7 / 0.9 mm for one to two shades and 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 mm for two to three.
  • Ivoclar lists 0.4 mm cervical and 0.5 mm incisal for its thin e.max veneers.
  • Zone values come from clinical literature and Ivoclar’s e.max minimums rather than a single manufacturer document.

Based on: Ivoclar IPS e.max instructions for use and chairside guides; Winter (Inside Dentistry, 2013); Sisler (J Cosmetic Dent, AACD); Magne & Magne; reviews of veneer incisal designs.

General guidelines based on published manufacturer recommendations; contact Advanced Dental Laboratory for case-specific questions.
